|Job Opportunity - Superintendent of Public Works|
The City of Tipton, Kansas (population210) is currently accepting applications for the position of a full time Superintendent of Public Works. The person in this position performs a wide variety of duties and performs all aspects of public works related to managing and supervising the overall operation and maintenance of public infrastructure including Water, Sewer, Refuse, Streets, Parks, Machinery and Buldings and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Kansas drivers' license. A high school diploma or GED is required. Applicant should possess or be willing to obtain a Class I Wastewater Operator Certification and Class I Water Operator Certificaton from the State of Kansas or the ability to obtain these certifications within twelve months or as soon as possible after start of employment. Qualified candidate must pass a pre-employment background check, reference check, drug screen and pre-employment physical. Applicant will need mechanical and electrical skills, be required to operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and have general knowledge of water and wastewater plants and testing equipment.
This position requires a responsible, self-motivated individual with sound management, supervision and communication skills. The applicant must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral directions and safety practices. The Superintendent of Public Works is accountable to and under the guidance and supervision of the City Council and Mayor and must be willing to work with initiatives established by them.
On average, there will be approximately 40 hours a week. Competitive salary and benefits are based on qualifications and experience. Benefits are given once the 90-day probation period is successfully completed and will include paid holidays, health insurance, retirement, sick and vacation leave.
The right candidate will be hired as Assistant Superintendent of Public Works starting January 1, 2019, until the current Superintendent retires on December 31, 2019, at which time they will take over the Superintendent of Public Works position. Residency will be required within the city limits or within 20 minutes of the Tipton city limits by the time they take over the position as City Superintendent.
