CITY OF TIPTON – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – January 5, 2026
The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday Jan. 5, 2026 at City Hall. Those present were Mayor Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Vanessa Tonne, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members Jessica Krier, Mark Towner and Sara Dilley. Council member Michael Ohnsat and Ben Avery were absent.
Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the Dec. 1, 2025 meeting were reviewed and approved.
There were 5 late fees on utility bills and 0 letters sent.
The sales tax receipt for December was $4,793.96. Receipts for Dec. were $29,932.95 and disbursements totaled $16,736.30. Bills and income for the month were reviewed but there are still bills that will be coming in for 2025, so the total figures will change.
General ledger was reviewed with the bills and receipts. Sara Dilley made the motion to pay the bills; Mark Towner seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Vanessa reported that Ordinance #785, Neighborhood Revitalization Program, has been filed/printed in the Downs News the week of 12/8/25. The City received burial fees from Roberts Funeral Home. Also discussed was the KMIT audit request that was received, Vanessa will gather up the information and get it to them by February 11, 2026 or before.
CMB (Cereal Malt Beverage) license for the new owners of Tipton Grocery was reviewed. Mark Towner made the motion to approve the new CMB license for Tipton Grocery; Jessica Krier seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Vanessa received a contract from Anita Goertzen. She prepares the budget for the City. The contract was approved and signed for the 2026 year.
The City Council judged light displays in town for the Christmas Lighting Contest. Winners are 1st Place – Steve and Leti Gasper; 2nd Place – Brandon and Kristi Lindsey; 3rd Place – Richard and Linda Weisel.
Rod gave an update on the new concessions building. Installers are currently working on the flooring in the weight room and dance studio. Tipton Community Foundation gave a check for $2,500 to the City of Tipton to help with cost for utilities and insurance on the new building. Vanessa reported that 2 new invoices were received from Ellenz of Tipton for the flooring material. Mark Towner updated council on the funds/grants that are in process to help purchase equipment for the work out room.
Mayor Jarrod reported that he was contacted in regards to a property dispute within the city. Discussion was held to make everyone aware of situation. He has been in contact with both property owners.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:31pm. Next meeting date is Monday, February 2nd, at 7:30 pm.
