CITY OF TIPTON – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – February 9, 2026
The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday Feb. 9, 2026 at City Hall. Those present were Mayor Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Vanessa Tonne, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members Jessica Krier, Ben Avery, Michael Ohnsat and Sara Dilley. Council member Mark Towner was absent.
Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the Jan. 5, 2026 meeting were reviewed and approved.
There were 6 late fees on utility bills and 1 letters sent.
The sales tax receipt for January was $5,681.66. Receipts for Jan. were $79,655.27 and disbursements totaled $20,023.26.
General ledger was reviewed with the bills and receipts. Ben Avery made the motion to pay the bills; Sara Dilley seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Vanessa reported that the CMB license for Tipton Grocery has been completed, signed and given to new owners.
City Superintendent Rod Barker reported that the broken water meter in town has been fixed and is in good working order. There will be a couple additional bills coming to the City for the new meter and parts. He also said that the grave for Roy Diers was dug, and a check has been received for this from the family. Rod reported a water leak at a residence in town; he said that the water has been turned off for now.
Dream Big grant check for $10,000 has been received and when school is out, work will begin on a new tennis/basketball court. The city is still waiting on a proposal to be given as to see what work will be done.
It was brought to Vanessa’s attention that the names on the bank safe deposit box with Guaranty State Bank – Tipton, need to be updated. Discussion was held and was decided to replace names currently listed, with Vanessa Tonne, City Clerk and Jarrod Shivers, Mayor.
City Clerk, Vanessa Tonne reported that the KMIT Work Comp audit is complete and will be sent off for review. The Reverend Norbert Dlabal/City of Tipton Scholarships have been printed and will be given to the current 2025-26 Tipton Catholic High School Senior class.
Updates were given on the new concessions building. A grant has been received from Dane G Hansen to help purchase work out equipment. Security systems have been priced for the building. Flooring is still needing to be completed; the new equipment will be delivered mid-March.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm. Next meeting date is Monday, March 2nd, at 7:30 pm.
